Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a research based therapy approach that focuses on helping people to become more aware of how their thoughts and behaviors contribute to how they feel. People are taught to become aware of the patterns of thinking they don’t realize are contributing to their emotional and physical problems.They are also taught how to modify thoughts and behaviors as away to improve their emotional and physical functioning. CBT is the most well research form of therapy and it has been shown to be effective at helping people cope with numerous problems including:

  • sleep disorders (insomnia)
  • low self-esteem
  • social anxiety
  • eating disorders
  • substance use disorders
  • post-traumatic stress disorder

Dr. Vilhauer is a master CBT clinician who has not only been providing CBT for 15 years but has also spent the majority of her career training other mental health professional how to provide CBT.
