PsychoTherapy Courses

Group psychotherapy courses are intended to help you rapidly gain the skills you need to feel better. The groups are based on well established psychological techniques  proven by research to help you cope more effectively with life’s everyday problems. Many people participate in psychotherapy courses before beginning individual therapy as a way to jump start the treatment process. Most of classes have between 6 to 8 participants so there is plenty of time for individual attention.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression

Everyone experiences sadness in life; however, chronic low to high levels of sadness or dissatisfaction can impact every area of your life. If you are experiencing a persistent decrease in motivation, increased hopelessness, and a desire to withdraw from the people around you, it is likely your sadness has turned to depression. CBT for depression is a 8-week course in which participants are taught ways to shift their thinking and increase engagement in life. The CBT skills taught in this class have been proven through empirical research to increase and help sustain positive mood. The skills learned are intended to be applied by the participants outside of class during the week and progress will be reviewed during each session. (8 weeks, 1.5 hrs per week)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Anxiety

Although we all experience low levels of anxiety, or nervousness, at times,  higher levels of anxiety can keep you from achieving your goals, limit your participation in some activities, create self-doubt, negatively impact your physical health, and generally feel bad.  Managing Anxiety is a 8-week course based in cognitive-behavioral theory (CBT), an evidence-based treatment which has been proven to be highly effective in reducing anxiety by targeting thinking and behavior. In this 8 week class, participants will be taught how to shift their thinking, skills to induce relaxation, and strategies to change behavior to reduce stress, anxiety, and worry. It is intended that participants will practice the skills outside of class during the week and progress will be reviewed each session. (8 weeks, 1.5 hrs per week)

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

One major obstacle that keeps us from making and maintaining change in life is a lack of awareness of what we are thinking, feeling, and doing in our present moment. Living in the present can also enhance our ability to gain greater enjoyment from our day-to-day life. Mindfulness skills have been demonstrated through years of research to increase present moment awareness and decrease stress. This 8-week course teaches mindfulness skills combined with cognitive therapy skills, which will help the participants build awareness and then use this awareness to make life changes.   (8 weeks, 1.5 hrs per week)

Future Directed Therapy

People with depression have been found to have low activity in parts of the brain that are responsible for reward processing and optimism. They also tend to have fewer skills that lead to positive future experiences, such as goal-setting and problem solving abilities. Future Directed Therapy (FDT) was developed specifically to address these issues. FDT is an excellent treatment for people whose depression results in lack of motivation and loss of interest in pleasurable activities, or those who believe the future holds little hope for something better. The first five weeks focus on teaching you to understand how your thoughts and behaviors produce future experiences and once this awareness is achieved, the second half of the class focuses on practical skills for setting goals and generating solutions for positive outcomes. (10 weeks, 1.5 hrs per week)
